Key Accomplishments
- Provided key leadership in 2005/06 to successfully prevent the alcohol industry from changing the definition of “alcopops” to allow distilled spirits content while still being classifies as “beer.”
- Provided support and key speaker testimony at informational hearing on SB 148 (Scott) in December 2005 to increase land use tools for local municipalities.
- Spearheaded an opposition effort in 2004 to defeat AB 2433 that would have increased the hours of alcohol sales in San Francisco clubs from 2 a.m. until 4 a.m.
- Launched alcohol policy reforms, including local control, responsible beverage service, operating and enforcement standards for alcohol outlets, and reduction of outlet density.
- Collaborated successfully with the Coalition on Alcohol Policy Reform, a 501(c)4 Corporation, to receive more timely access to information on the legislative process, and to take action on behalf of our issues in Sacramento.
- Provided training for activists and community members throughout California on key alcohol policy issues.
